President Bola Tinubu announced an initiative to address the skills gap in Nigeria’s digital workforce, aiming to train two million Nigerians in digital skills such as software development, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing. The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, cited a UNESCO report on the shortage of skilled workers in digital fields in Nigeria, with job vacancies in various sectors. The Nigerian government will establish a Digital Training Academy to train professionals, covering costs and providing certifications from tech companies like Cisco and Google. The programme targets June 2025 for launch, aligning with STEM education promotion efforts. Efforts also include reintegrating Out-of-School Children, enhancing school security, building classrooms and toilets, distributing textbooks, and supporting entrepreneurial activities. Plans involve investing in the national library project and strengthening existing universities. TETfund will continue with increased investments in university infrastructure and educators.
